Genia Howard completed her BA and M.Ed at FAU and later was awarded National Board Certification as an art teacher. Having received many awards for her expertise in a variety of media, she has judged many art competitions.

Teaching art has been a major part of her life experiences, and her students have achieved state, national and international awards. She is highly sought after to teach preparation for the Dreyfoos and Bak School of the Arts auditions.

Although her early work included mastery of figure drawing and other pursuits of realism, she has always had a deep connection with abstraction.

This exhibit is a selection from a series begun in 2017 exploiting the layering and properties of acrylic paint. The works are nonrepresentational, the result of a mix of spontaneity and careful editing and repainting. Viewers are not asked to discover “things” in the images, although it is natural to look for them. Instead it is hoped that one relates to a mood or a personal romp within ones own life.

Having lived in South Florida for most of her life, the saturated colors in her paintings reflect her love of this vibrant community.

Painting is a rigorous physical and mental activity. However I am at my happiest when I allow my sense of fun to interact with the process. I maintain a healthy respect for inspired play.
